Travel Europe. One place to visit for every month of the year

Europe, who doesn’t love it? The culture, the food, the people, the landscape. It is varied, fun, colourful, educating, Europe and its hundreds of towns, places, villages, beaches, and mountains. All that comes with this variety is just what everyone dreams of experiencing at least once in their lifetimes. Here comes a choice of places, always one to visit, for every month of the year. These are all tried and tested, many several times and in any case, tested in the month they are recommended here.

Eco-friendly Arctic TreeHouse Hotel in Rovaniemi

Six kilometres south of the Arctic Circle, in Finland's northernmost province, you find Rovaniemi, the capital of Lapland. Most people come here to experience stunning nature, learn about Finnish design, to eat and to visit Santa Claus.

If you, as I do averse the concept of large hotels and love the idea of a luxurious, ecologically minded and owner-run resort and are looking for a place like that right at the Arctic Circle, then this is the place you were searching for. The Arctic TreeHouse Hotel consists of 35 wooden chalet suits occupying several tracks in a hilly forest.

Travel Finland. Rovaniemi for First Time Visitors

Where is Finland? The Republic of Finland in Northern Europe shares a border with Norway in the north, Sweden in the northwest, and Russia in the east. It only became independent from Russia as recently as in 1917. The country is so sparsely populated, that one might say Finland is in Europe what Namibia is in Africa.

The Unfair Traveller - Symptoms and Treatment - Travel Etiquette

Travelling is what I love to do, in recent months alone I visited seven different countries, and you can well imagine that I spend a lot of time in, on and around public transport, like train stations, bus stops, airports, planes, boats and trains. I always expect the very worst things that can happen to me on my travels. I’m fully aware that I’m at risk of experiencing profoundly disturbing or utterly bothersome things, as soon as I leave my home. I love that with my expectation comes a feeling of being prepared (up to a certain extent).

Looking at the state of things when travelling I have serious doubts that we will ever achieve world peace.

Travel Inspiration Europe: April to June

We are well into the New Year, and it is time to plan further ahead. Look what I discovered in 2015. I had the most magnificent travel year and so many outstanding experiences. I highly recommend every single one to you. See where I went in 2015 (and read all about it on my Instagram account) to get inspired for the year ahead. It is all about planning at the right time. I already introduced January to March, and now we will go on with April to June … Have fun.

Nominated for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award (4): The Touristin

The Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award goes to female bloggers around the world. I was seriously surprised that I have been nominated a fourth time (within a few weeks) and this time by Maria from Travel with G. Thank you so very much for thinking of me Maria, I love to talk to you whenever we meet in the virtual world, be it on twitter or Instagram  and I hope we meet one day in the real world. It feels so special that someone in another country thinks of you right?

As per the rules, I answered Marias' ten questions about travel, created a new list of ten questions and awarded ten female bloggers. Go and visit their blogs and please say hi.

And this is what Maria was interested in.

Travelling? It makes you thirsty for more of this thing called life

Travelling does the craziest things to you. It goes like this. At the beginning of this year, as I was in Botswana, when I saw the wildlife I was convinced that I will do more birdwatching when back home. Easy, go to any lookout point and start. In Zimbabwe I wanted to become a freedom fighter, whereas soon after in Cape Town, South Africa I knew I need to buy a farm in the Karoo and live happily ever after. I mean, thinking of it, an apartment in Clifton with a view of the ocean would equally do the trick.

Travel Finland - Helsinki-Guide: Do You Love Design, Books, Food and Equality?

Have you ever been far up in the north of Europe? Finland is bordered by Sweden, Norway and Russia. Helsinki, the capital city of Finland is, compared to other Scandinavian cities, a rather young one. The town was founded only recently … in 1550. Just look at Copenhagen the capital city of Denmark, which was founded in the 10th century and Stockholm the capital city of Sweden soon after in 1252.

Finns found easy to follow way to lead a sustainable life: Cleaning Day Helsinki

Who doesn’t want to lead a sustainable life? In the tiny universe I live in, I try not to buy too many new clothes, and to only buy food that I actually need. When I go shopping I take a reusable bag. All groceries I buy are organic. Start reading the labels on your food, and you might be soon convinced to do the same. I make my own jam, and often my own bread and I don’t buy bottled water, since tap water is just excellent. I use cotton napkins, and paper towels would never find their way into my abode ever. I close the tap when I brush my teeth.

My home is furnished in a mix of used furniture from parents and grandparents, and new bought items. Never in my life did I own a tumble dryer. I turn off the lights when not in the room. I rarely ever print documents anymore, walk whenever possible, I don’t use lifts or escalators (if there is a staircase) and recycle paper, glass and even milk cartons. It is the little things that count. Oh well, well, well I sound like a frustrated hippie I guess.

Ideas of how to reduce the use of resources are appearing all over the world. People are introducing concepts, of how to share family holiday homes or cars, when not in use, and how to turn wasted food into consumable food … and what else ... We can learn so much while travelling.
