Schwerin Castle is a prime example of Romantic historicism in Europe. I find that its home on one of Schwerin’s many islands makes this place extraordinary charming. Imagination inspires the soul. We all need courage, confidence, and dreams just in the same way as we also need water and air to survive. Occasionally, we all should visit fairytale-like places that tell a story. Stories that remind us that there is always a solution no matter how complicated and hopeless the situation is. It is important to find meaning and to look at through what adventures the ones before us had to go before they experienced their fairy-tale-like ending.

Travel Germany – Visit Friedrichstadt also known as Little Amsterdam

You dream of walking through a town as pretty as a photo in a coffee table book? Found it. Friedrichstadt is a town in the district of Northern Frisia, in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. In English, it is easier if you pronounce it as Sleswick-Holsatia (as previously known in English). The town, named after Duke Friedrich III. from Schleswig-Gottorp, is a dream come true. In the 17th century, the duke wanted to convince Dutchmen to move to this remote region of his duchy. He needed their expertise in designing towns by the water. And he also wanted to make use of their trade relations with partners as far away as Spain.

Pretty autumn spots in and near Berlin

There are many pretty warm days in mid-October, with temperatures just below 20 degrees Celsius, and it gets slowly cooler towards November. Sometimes temperatures are below fifteen to ten degrees Celsius, so it is ideal to bring a scarf and wear a coat. October and November are the ideal months to go outside to enjoy the wonderful colours of autumn's tree foliage in and near Berlin.

Travel Germany. Sankt Peter-Ording For First Time Visitors

Moin, that is how they greet you in this part of the world. St. Peter-Ording, called SPO, is as popular with holidayers as it is picture perfect. The North Sea resort St. Peter Ording sits on the Eiderstedt peninsula in the "Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park" in Schleswig Holstein. The Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park in Germany's northernmost state, which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009, is home to pine forests, salt marshes, a dune landscape, sandbanks and mudflats, birds and seals. You are going to fall in love with the idyllic and warm atmosphere; there are 4,000 locals plus the about 4,000 holiday home owners. This is the place to visit if you just want to relax, do some water sport, enjoy the salty air, eat, drink and be happy.

Travel Germany. Churches and Cathedrals in Munich - The Most Beautiful Ones

Everybody loves Munich because it is, without a doubt, one of the prettiest towns in the world. People love Munich for its beer gardens, for its beer, for its food, for its friendly people, for its lovely weather, for the English Garden and for the Oktoberfest.

Why would a tourist want to visit churches while in Munich? Why not? In winter, Munich’s churches give you shelter from the cold, and, in summer, during a heatwave, they protect you from the sun. Churches tell you a lot about the history of Munich, where were the town’s borders, where were the poorest quarters, and what was the role of city gates?

 

 

Travel Germany. Visit Rühstädt: Europe's largest stork town

This summer, there are 29 pairs that have a total of 32 nestlings (baby storch).

 

Everybody wants to get off-the-beaten track, the good news is, that it is so easy in Germany. Rühstädt is a small town in the Prignitz region of Germany, located in the north-western tip of the state of Brandenburg and directly adjacent to the states of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. The serene town with only 240 residents is located in the heart of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve River Landscape Elbe-Brandenburg. Near the town, the rivers Havel and Elbe meet. Rühstädt, now famous for the high number of resident white storks has the largest stork colony in Central Europe. The white storks are one of Europe's wildlife highlights.

Travel Germany and celebrate Nikolaus on 6th December

Today Germany celebrates Saint Nicholas aka Nikolaos of Myra aka Bishop of Myra. This is a really popular tradition in Germany, where the Saint is called Nikolaus. He was famous for his secret gift-giving until he died on 6th December 343 (the year of his death is not known exactly). When his parents died of the plague, Saint Nicholas inherited money and donated it to the poor. He saved several young people from poverty in his hometown of Patara in Lycia on the coast of Turkey, by secretly throwing money through their window and he helped sailors in trouble and carried out lots of good deeds.

 

On the evening of December 5th, people celebrate Saint Nicholas eve, with sitting together, singing Christmas carols, and merrily eating delicacies like roast apples with raisins and marzipan. Children (and grown-ups too) leave their boots in front of their door overnight, and parents, relatives, or partners place a treat, usually chocolate, in it. On the morning of the 6th December, everyone is getting a lovely surprise. The lucky ones get enough spicy Christmas chocolate and walnuts which will last, till they get more of it on Christmas Eve.

Munich has it all, it is easy to reach, modern and charming, trendy and traditional, it is a friendly and welcoming town. Munich Christmas markets are the epitome of Christmas market culture. Nutcrackers, incense-makers, angels, snow globes, gnomes, baubles, Christmas trees made from wood, cinnamon stars, gingerbread, cheese fondue, felt shoes, wooden pendants, wooden toys, bookends, ceramic cups, bowls, plates, cards, paper, spices, tea. 

 

 

Travel Germany - Cologne Travel Inspiration

Where is Cologne? You find the town in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, 580 kilometres to the west from the capital Berlin and 260 kilometres to the south-east from Amsterdam in The Netherlands. If you visit Cologne you can expect to walk through a 2,000-year long history and that together with 1,000,000 locals. Cologne, is a town with a big heart, and is called affectionately Koelle by locals. An area of 800 hectares of green, half of which is wooded runs around Cologne like a green belt. The motto of the city is open-minded, tolerant and multicultural.

Cologne is divided into nine different boroughs and each of these has several smaller districts, in fact, there are 86 different ones. This guide focuses mainly on the central districts, this is where I know my way around, and it is curated with love.

Travel Germany. Stopover in Frankfurt Main - The Best Views

Frankfurt Airport, with its four runways, is one of the largest airports in Europe. Chances are that at one point or other on your long distance journey you will stop here. The town in the German state of Hesse has 700.000 inhabitants and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was born here. Frankfurt, the financial centre of Germany and home of the European Central Bank doesn’t enjoy the best reputation; it is often even described as boring and shallow. It is not as trendy as Berlin, as beautiful as Munich or as fun as Cologne, but, and that is something the other towns don't have, at least not to this extent, the town on the River Main offers killer views. Why not use the time of a stop-over to your advantage? Here is a list with five of the best views over this small metropolis.

She can confirm that they do eat a lot of sausages and cabbage and drink beer everywhere in this country.
