There are times when the
South Easter blows so strong, that surfers on Sunset Beach in Milnerton can't
handle the conditions any longer. That is exactly the moment when they all
drive the short distance to Melkbosstrand, to continue the fun in Melkbos Bay. Melkbosstrand,
only 25 kilometres from Cape Town on the Atlantic Coast, feels like a small
country-town, and is the home of Sven Woxholt.
Sven Woxholt founded
WiseWally.com out of a passion for his home region. He promotes businesses, and dreams of creating a web
presence for every area in the world. For now he focuses on his local area
in his blog.
Sven is fun to chat to. Today he tells us about Melkbosstrand. Next time you are in Cape Town go and visit this place.

The Touristin: Three words that characterize Melbkbosstrand?
Sven Woxholt: The best 3 words for Melkbosstrand are uncommercial, beach-town and
awesome.
The Touristin: How do you get around Melbkbosstrand?
Sven Woxholt: Melkbosstrand is small enough to walk around, but it does have a great
connecting bus network to Cape Town and Shopping areas in Table view and the
surrounds. Uber is also ones’ friend in Melkbosstrand and they will take you
anywhere. Locals like to use bicycles and scooters to get to the beach.
The Touristin: What is the best kept secret
about Melbkbosstrand?
Sven Woxholt: The best kept secret about Melkbosstrand is that most people think it is
too far from Cape Town. This causes the town to be very quiet with a rural
feel, but still close enough to the city that you can get there in 25 minutes.
Melkbosstrand also has a lovely beach with a promenade filled with little
restaurants to laze away the afternoon in.
The Touristin: What is your favourite borough/suburb/area
in Melbkbosstrand and why?
Sven Woxholt: Melkbosstrand really is a small and does not have anything like that, but
my favourite area inside Melkbosstrand has to be the beautiful clean beach we
have.
The Touristin: The best place for a hot
chocolate or coffee in Melbkbosstrand?
Sven Woxholt: I am not sure if "I Love Melkies" does hot chocolate, but they
make a great hot dog and milkshakes.
The Touristin: What is one restaurant we must
try out while in Melbkbosstrand?
Sven Woxholt: The stand out restaurant in Melkbosstrand has to be Damhuis. The food is
really top quality and the ambience is great. They are open all day so whether
it is a great lunch or stylish dinner you are after this is the place to come
to.
The Touristin: Where would we meet you on
weekends?
Sven Woxholt: On a weekend we are generally out and about. It would be the beach, horse
riding at the nearby stables or sometimes taking a drive up the West Coast to
places like Langebaan and Paternoster for a little change in scenery.
The Touristin: Do you have a favourite museum/gallery
we all have to visit when in Melbkbosstrand?
Sven Woxholt: I do believe we have a gallery on the main road in the town center, but
since I am not much of a gallery person I prefer the tremendous collection of
Ferrari memorabilia at Maranellos which is an Italian restaurant on the beach
front. I think there must over 100 scaled models of Ferraris on the walls. Art
in my books.
The Touristin: What are some of your favourite
places to shop for A) groceries and B) clothes?
Sven Woxholt: For groceries we find it easiest to go to the shopping center in the center
of town. They have a Pick n Pay that has just about everything you would need.
They also have some clothing stores in the same center. If you are looking for
anything special clothes-wise I would suggest taking a drive to the city or
Canal Walk.
The Touristin: What souvenir shall we bring
back from Melbkbosstrand?
Sven Woxholt: There are two I would recommend. If you want something physical I would
take beach sand home. It is beautifully white and will always remind you of
your time here. Otherwise I would definitely go skydiving and take home the
video. There is a great facility just down the road where you can do a tandem
jump with no experience and see Cape Town and Melkbosstrand from the sky.
The Touristin: Thank you so much Sven, all the very best with WiseWally.com. I truly hope to see you soon again in South
Africa.
