THE TOURISTIN: Three words that characterize Durban?

Verushka Ramasami: Colourful. Beach. Friendly.

THE TOURISTIN: How do you get around Durban?

Verushka Ramasami: I have my own car. There is public transport in the forms of buses and trains but it’s not recommended for tourists.

THE TOURISTIN: What is the best kept secret about Durban

Verushka Ramasami: Durban is amazing there is so much to see, do, eat and drink. A best kept secret would definitely be The Chairman a local watering hole.

THE TOURISTIN: What is your favourite borough/suburb/area in Durban and why?

Verushka Ramasami: I love the Umhlanga area which is roughly 20 minutes out of the city centre. It has a large number of eateries and boutique shops. It is also very close to the beach.

THE TOURISTIN: The best place for a coffee in Durban?

Verushka Ramasami: Vida e Caffè.

THE TOURISTIN: What is one restaurant we must try out while in Durban?

Verushka Ramasami: Britannia for their world famous bunny chow (unsliced loaf of bread hollowed out and filled with a curry, could be meat or veg).

THE TOURISTIN: Where would we meet you on weekends?

Verushka Ramasami: Possibly in a mall running errands catching up with friends. My day job has long late hours so I am not able to get stuff done during the week.

THE TOURISTIN: Do you have a favourite museum/gallery we all have to visit when in Durban?

Verushka Ramasami: Gandhi Heritage Site in Inanada and Nelson Mandela Capture site in the Midlands.

THE TOURISTIN: What are some of your favourite places to shop for A) groceries and B) clothes?

Verushka Ramasami: Groceries: South Africans are spoilt for choice when it comes to amazing locally grown produce and products.

THE TOURISTIN: What souvenir shall we bring back from Durban?

Verushka Ramasami: Durban is such a melting pot of cultures and each with their own souvenirs. Zulu beadwork is very popular and is made into key rings, jewellery and even chandeliers. So definetely something beaded.

THE TOURISTIN: Thank you so much Verushka. Good luck with your project, it sounds wonderful.
