Nominated for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award 2: The Touristin

The Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award goes to female bloggers around the world. I was seriously surprised that I have been nominated a second time (within a few days) and this time by Jessica. If you would like to see the first time, check this out.

Thank you so very much for thinking of me Jessica. As per the rules, I answered Jessica’s ten questions about travel, created a new list of ten questions and awarded ten female bloggers. Go and visit their blogs and please say hi.

This is what Jessica was interested in:

1. What do you love most about traveling?

I simply love the feeling of not being at home, as in literally just for the fact that I am not at home. I get all excited about what other people wear in other cities/countries. The understanding of other viewpoints is also a treat. As well as visiting markets, restaurants, bars, cafes, I love to have a browse at bookstores and antique shops, all these places tell me a lot of a place and its history.

2. What is the earliest memory you have of travelling? How old were you, where did you go and with whom?

It is not a particular memory I can recall. As a child I went with my parents to the coast in the northern part of Germany (a lot) and I have very fond memories of these times.

3. Do you have a song you always listen to before setting out on the road? If so, what is the song and why is it special?

I don’t listen to that special song before I leave home. My all-time favourite travel song is Beached (Orbital, Angelo Badalamenti). I love the whole text, it is so very true. Wait, here we go:

Trust me
It's Paradise
This is where the hungry come to feed
For mine is a generation that circles the globe
in search of something we haven't tried before
so never refuse an invitation
never resist the unfamiliar
never fail to be polite
and never outstay your welcome

just keep your mind open and
suck in the experience
and if it hurts
you know what... it's probably worth it

you hope, and you dream
but you never believe that
something is going to happen for you
not like it does in the movies
and when it actually does
you expect it to feel different
more visirale
more real
I was waiting for it to hit me

I still believe in paradise
but now at least I know it's not some place you can look for
cause it's not where you go
it's how you feel for a moment in your life
and if you find that moment it lasts forever

4. What is the most exotic food you have ever eaten? Where did you try it? Would you eat it again?

I once had been invited by a random guy to drink Kava in Fiji (no it isn’t Spanish bubbles). While we were sitting on the floor that guy grounded a (sort of pepper) plant and mixed it with water in a big wooden bowl. He then filled a cup from that same bowl where the liquid by now looked like muddy water. I had to force myself to smile and to drink it (because he had "washed" his hands in my drink). When I drank it my mouth went slightly numb. If I get invited again, I would of course drink it.

5. When you are travelling, what do you miss most from home?

As long as I can read a lovely book I'm OK (no matter where I am really).

6. Tell us about a unique souvenir you brought home. What makes it so special?

I once bought a miniature Land Rover in South Africa. So far I drove 40,000 kilometres through Southern Africa (I also read a lot about it), and I did all these road trips in a Land Rover.

7. Tell us about a food you discovered abroad. Have you tried to make it back at home? Please feel free to share the recipe, if you feel so inclined.

In Australia, breakfast is only complete with Avocado toast (this is not true to the word of course, you don’t have to eat it). Over the years it became my favourite food, and it is easy to prepare: Roast ciabatta bread, place crushed ripe avocado on it. Drizzle with olive oil, and freshly squeezed lemon juice. Finish with some black pepper. This is heaven on a plate.

8. Share one of your favourite travel quotes and why it resonates with you.

I am not the same having seen the moon shine on the other side of the world. Anne Rademacher

I know that I will never fully understand what is really going on in this world but at least I see some correlations. It is also easier to understand the feelings of others. I base decisions on a wider range of experiences. Having been a stranger in so many places, makes it easy for me to be welcoming and open minded. I know that there is a real world out there. Every experience changes me a bit more, and I don't want to stand still.

9. If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?

If I could go anywhere in the world right now I would go to Cape Town in South Africa. Nature, food, great coffee, culture, urban life, space, desert, ocean, mountain ranges, it is all there, or in short reach and simply fantastic.

10. What is the next trip you have planned?

Next I will go to Denmark, then Morocco, then France and after that to the Alps in Germany but not sure yet what is going to happen when October comes. I love that I can keep my life as a travel blogger interesting.

My questions are:

1.     What is your favourite vegetarian dish?
2.     What type of museum do you like to visit?
3.     We hear all the time that we have to live our dreams. Are you doing it?
4.     What is the funniest thing you ever experienced?
5.     What is your most treasured travel souvenir?
6.     Mountains or ocean?
7.     Who should play you in the film of your life?
8.     If your life were a book, what would the title be?
9.     Did you ever dance under a starry night sky?
10.   Your perfect vacation involves …
